This customer said his old front stairs were a bit shaky – and his wife took a nasty spill when the bottom step broke! I was shocked when I check it out and found the joists and the post were all completely rotten – the only thing holding it together were the top decking!
We replaced it with a completely new structure. We chose tropical hardwood merbau for the timber due to its beauty, strength and its insect and damp resistent properties. Whereas the old structure only used 4″ nails to hold together, we went for galvanised brackets for strength and longevity.
The house is on the side of a hill, so gets a lot of run off. I bedded everything with concrete so stormwater wont ever touch any metal or wood.
Other features include stainless steel screws for the decking and rebate joints to increase strength and lifespan, ensuring that Ian will have a beautiful entrance to his home for years to come.
